Metalwork features prominently at Sallea Antiques, where you’ll find scores of wonderful antiques in brass, silver, copper, and bronze. Our specialties include:
Candlesticks
We carry French sticks from the 16th century to the 19th including 18th century pairs with fine engraving and bobeches and Louis Phillipe style with pushers. Often these brass candlesticks were silver plated in the 19th century when silver became more fashionable. On some examples the silver plating remains while on others it has worn down to the original brass.
Our English candlesticks range from Queen Anne to Late Victorian and include the popular open twist design and the “Diamond” series which were created in honor of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The Diamond series consists of five pairs of candlesticks increasing in size from the 10” “Princess” to the very rare 14” “Ace,” with the middle sizes being “Queen,” “Prince,” and “King.”
In addition to standard candlesticks we also carry English tavern sticks, which feature a “ring for service” bell in their design, candelabra, wall sconces, lanterns and chandeliers.
Fireplace Accessories
Sallea Antiques offers a full range of fireplace accessories including fenders, andirons, sets of tools, jamb hooks, footmen, and trivets. Specialty items include nursery fenders, which, standing much taller than an ordinary fender were designed to protect children from the fireplace, and club fenders which feature a leather seating surface atop the rail. As for tools we carry both American sets, comprised of tongs and a shovel, and English, which add a poker to the group. Our andirons range from diminutive to large and include ball and/or steeple, acorn, and lemon top examples as well as others.
